Compliment Your Mirror Day – Mark Your Mirror Change Your Life

In conjunction with Compliment Your Mirror Day, this article serves as a kind reminder for us to treat ourselves nicer whenever we look at the mirror.

When you look in the mirror, what do you see? What do you focus your attention on? What words do you tell yourself and what images go through your mind?

“…I am amazing? I am beautiful? I am enough”…?

If you are like most people, you probably focus in on what you perceive to be your flaws. You’ll see things that no one else even notices and feel self-conscious as a result. How harshly do you judge yourself and your own features?

So many of us struggle with low self-esteem that many people can actually find it hard to even look into the mirror at themselves. This often stems from a lack of confidence and self-belief. The good news is that this can easily be fixed and this article will show you how.

#ComplimentYourMirrorDay

June 3rd marks this year’s compliment your mirror day, where you are encouraged to say nice things to yourself in the mirror.

According to Days of the Year ‘Compliment Your Mirror Day is your reminder to show yourself a little love and remind yourself just how awesome you are. Then keep doing it day after day!

History of Compliment Your Mirror Day

Depression and broken self-esteem are some of the most dangerous things to leave untreated and unacknowledged. Every year there are people who succumb to these horrible events, and while complimenting yourself in the mirror isn’t a panacea for these dangerous things, it can at least begin the process of building your feeling of self-worth through self-talk.

It’s important to know that Compliment Your Mirror Day doesn’t just have to do with your physical, outer beauty, such a thing is ephemeral and certainly won’t last into your old age. But the person you are and how you approach the world certainly will, in fact it’s the only thing you’ll keep until your last days. So Compliment Your Mirror Day means you need to recognize all of your inner strengths and inner beauties.’

Mark Your Mirror And Change Your Life

Marisa Peer, bestselling author of I Am Enough: Mark Your Mirror and Change Your Life, has taught millions of people the power of complimenting your mirror.

Marisa encourages people to write empowering statements on their mirrors, as a simple transformational technique, which anyone can do to help overcome even their greatest challenges. Marisa actually won the 2018 International Day of the Girl Child Inspiration Award specifically for work in inspiring confidence in women and girls through the #markyourmirror and #IAmEnough movement.

Recently Marisa has been giving away signed copies of her book I Am Enough to people who mark their mirrors and share their photos – to inspire others to do the same.

The Power Of “I Am Enough”

In this article with Nicole Scherzinger using the powerful statement ‘you are enough’, Marisa states: “I believe that the common denominator of almost everyone’s issues is that, somewhere along the way, they learned that they weren’t good enough. Not loveable

enough, successful enough, talented enough, perfect enough or good enough to be accepted and loved as they are.

The number one way to love yourself more is by truly believing that you are enough. I have watched over and over how a simple, profound, and life-changing mantra of ‘I am Enough’ can build self-love and eliminate any limiting beliefs forever.

‘I Am Enough’ is the most powerful statement of truth I have taught millions of people all over the world to use to transform their lives. When you truly believe you are enough, your life will improve in the most amazing ways.”

How Writing ‘I Am Enough’ On Your Mirror Can Change Your Life

Marisa’s book ‘I Am Enough’ and the accompanying online course gives everyone access to these simple yet effective strategies to change your life. Marisa explains:

“When you know that you are enough everyone around you will know that you are enough too. Your life will be so different and so much better when you can resonate your enoughness at a level that positively impacts your career, your relationships and your happiness levels.

You can use the power of stating that you are enough, that you always have been and always will be, to achieve success in every key area of your life. When you say it, think it and believe it and make it an automatic and regular part of your life you can expect to see wonderful improvements in your relationships, in your career and in how you feel about yourself.”

Sarah Birchall’s book review of ‘I Am Enough’:

“I first discovered Marisa Peer a few months ago via a Mindvalley free Masterclass. I was blown away by the effect this one session had on me, as I navigated an unexpected and very challenging period in my life. I bought this book as soon as it was available on Amazon and I recently attended the ‘I am enough’ seminar day in London. I have now read the book several times, and I constantly dip in and out of it for tips, hints, encouragement and answers as to why I feel a certain way, or take particular actions. The book is written in an easy to read style, in sections which follow seamlessly on from each other. I can hear Marisa’s voice leaping off the page as I read and into my understanding. The concept is incredibly simple, the effects are truly life changing, and this is my first ever book review!

If you want to help yourself, to understand why you keep repeating your mistakes then please buy this book, or borrow it from the library, and start the change. Marisa explains how for thousands of years we’ve been programmed to seek connections with others, and avoid rejection. It’s an essential survival trait. However the world has changed and we have not, and we are inadvertently triggering our ‘fight or flight’ responses in the autonomic nervous system. Instead of needing to survive from an attack from wolves, our bodies react to problems on the morning commute as if were under attack. This leads to more stress and frequent anger. Marisa explains how we can choose how to deal with these everyday problems in a quick and simple way by changing the words we use and the pictures we create e.g. the delayed train is an inconvenience, it’s not life-threatening, and instead of raging and raising our blood pressure we can use the extra time to listen to music or catch up on emails.

Loneliness is becoming more prevalent and is particularly hard to deal with as it links back to rejection or shunning from the tribe, and leads to “poverty of the spirit”. We all need to feel connected, and it starts with believing in oneself. She says: “This isn’t the same as ego or narcissism; it’s a sense of radical self-love”, and continues on to explain how vital self-belief is, and how without this self-belief we will never be free of the “not good enough” feeling, and this, in turn, halts our progress and limits our potential. I am enough will change your thinking and your life for the better. It will make you listen to the words you are using, to the stories you are telling, and simply explain how to revise and modify them, thereby altering your life in a few simple steps. We all resist the unfamiliar and revert to what is familiar, it’s hardwired into us. Marisa explains why, and how we can learn to love the unfamiliar using the fundamentals of neuroplasticity to re-wire our brains to make it familiar.

The feedback loop is another great psychological example Marisa gives, explaining how we think, we feel, and we act then loop back to thoughts again. This is proven science. The words we choose to use either positive or negative become looping repetitive thoughts and we can depending on the words we use rise and succeed, or spiral downwards. It’s up to us to choose the words, and in many cases to change the words we have been using to rise instead of fall.

“Happy Healing”

Another reader called Jane shared the following review of Marisa’s book, I Am Enough:

“Einstein said: Simplify, simplify until things can’t be simplified more. And that is what Marisa Peer has accomplished to obviate hours and days of traditional psychotherapy, coming from a medical internist with more psychiatry training. This should be required reading in school Systems. Happy Healing!”

“All you need is the commitment to do it and the belief that it will work”

In this I Am Enough article, Marisa shares the story of a woman in the audience of one of her events: “It’s such a thrill when I get to hear how people I’ve never even met manage to improve their lives by using my techniques and advice. Last week served as a good example. I was giving a talk to a group of female entrepreneurs and business leaders about simple steps they can use to mastermind their lives and feel confident in their relationships and careers. At the conclusion of my talk, a woman in the audience raised her hand and said that, for the past few months, she’s set a reminder on her phone at 8am and 8pm every day. It says simply: “I am enough.” This is a trick I have encouraged my clients to use for years. The repetition of that simple phrase over and over (both out loud and in your head) will eventually make it difficult for your mind to object to it. As the audience member said, even though she didn’t feel rich enough, smart enough, thin enough, or successful enough when she first programmed the words into her phone, slowly but surely she began to believe the powerful message itself.

In my 25 years as a therapist, I’ve discovered that the root of so many modern problems—hoarding, excessive drinking, compulsive shopping, and overeating—come right back to a need to fill the inner emptiness of not feeling “enough” with external things. The more you tell yourself you are enough, the more you’ll believe it. It sounds so utterly simple—and it is—and all you need is the commitment to do it and the belief that it will work.”

How Does Something So Simple Have Such Powerful Life-Changing Results?

In Marisa’s ‘Rules of the Mind’ article, she simplifies years of knowledge into simple easily accessible and understandable insights: “The simple truth is that the human mind has one simple job: to keep you alive as long as possible. Your mind does what it thinks you want it to do and what it truly believes is in your best interest. To do that, your mind is hardwired to move you away from pain and towards pleasure. It is highly influenced by the words and pictures you put in your mind, loves what is familiar and prefers to avoid anything unfamiliar.

Your every thought and word form a blueprint that your mind and body work to make your reality.

The most powerful potential on the planet comes from your mind. Your words and thoughts are powerful and your mind is always listening. Every word you say and thought you think becomes a blueprint that your mind and body work to turn into reality. The strongest force in you is that you must act in a way that consistently matches your thinking. Your mind does not know, and indeed it does not care if what you tell it is right or wrong, good or bad, true or false, helpful or very unhelpful – it just lets it in. Your mind’s job is to act on the words you tell it. Your job is to give your mind much more powerful, descriptive and positive words. Understand the rules of the mind so your mind works with you, not against you.”

“I want to share that after hearing Marisa Peer speak of “I Am Enough” and implementing this mantra in my daily routine, my life is starting to change. Someone very special to me once planted a seed in my mind/heart. She said “you don’t love yourself. . .” I have been hurting since that comment was made. Not because she said it, but because she spoke a truth I was not even aware. I never realized that thinking about oneself was acceptable or possible. Much less loving oneself. How could I think, say, explore, or pause to look at myself in the mirror and see my beauty; or say that I am enough, that I am perfect, or that I matter? No one ever said that to me. I never heard anyone saying those phrases to themselves or to anyone I knew… The bottom line is that because I am learning about self-love, self-compassion, and being enough, for the first time in my 46 years of life I felt so good and truly appreciative when my husband gave me a watch for Christmas and I said “I love it, I am going to look so good with it.” I meant it. For Christmas dinner I wore a red dress (I don’t wear dresses, or “dress up”). And I felt beautiful.”
