What is Confidence?

The dictionary defines confidence as ‘belief in oneself and one's powers or abilities’. Generally speaking, people are attracted to confident people, but there is also a fine line between confidence and cockiness or arrogance.

If you have confidence in someone, it means you can rely on them, and trust them. Having your own self-confidence should then mean that you can rely on yourself, trust yourself, and know that whatever you’re saying, you have faith in.

Tips to Build Your Self-Esteem

  • Accept compliments and add to them or give one back. For example, if someone says your hair looks nice, instead of saying, “Oh it needs a wash!” try saying, “Thank you, I’ve been using this great new shampoo...”

  • Praise yourself every day. This holds tremendous power and is something that the world’s most successful people employ as a tool.

  • Focus on what you’re moving towards, not what you’re leaving behind.

  • Don’t let negativity in. Block rude people on social media and eliminate toxic people from your life. If someone close to you says something unkind, ask them to repeat it and the chances are, they won’t.
